Yvonne de la Vega is an American Poet and native Los Angelean who in the last several years has contributed to the Los Angeles Poetry Scene which hit it's peak in popularity in the early 1990's. She is known as a poet who expresses in the confessional style and is well respected as a poet of social conscience. Yvonne de la Vegahas been called the "Word Commando", by poet Michael C. Ford and was mentored by Poet Michael Lally. was an influential voice among the poets of The "Poetry In Motion" series of the famous readings held every Tuesday night hosted by Michael Lally and Hollywood producer Eve Brandstein, a celebrity studded reading where famous actors were regular contributors including Robert Downey, Jr., Dennis Christopher, The Baldwin Brothers Alec and Steven, Katey Sagal, Drew Barrymore, John Barrymore, Ally Sheedy and actor Michael O'Keefe to name a few. Known to be a favorite poet of the series which included other Los Angeles favorites such as poets Michael Lalley, Wanda Coleman, Michael C. Ford, Tommy Swerdlow, Jack Grapes, S.A Griffin, as well as other various film & music personalities such as the late great Hubert Selby, Jr., Jennifer Lynch, and Harry Dean Stanton. Yvonne de la Vega has been credited for influencing the Spoken Word and Jazz/Music trend that resurged in Los Angeles in the 1990's, to later evolve into a Los Angeles Hip Hop poetry scene, beginning in 2000. She has several Spoken word recordings on vinyl and CD with various Major and Independant record companies, including A&M Records, Virgin Records, "New Alliance Records" and recordings from the archives of Warner Jazz. Her discography includes Producers such as Ray Manzarek, Herb Alpert, Malcom McLaren's and Booker T Washington Jr.
